MS Dhoni has invested in SolarSquare as the rooftop solar startup raised ₹510 crore in a Series C funding round to accelerate residential solar adoption across India.

MS Dhoni Joins SolarSquare’s Series C Round to Accelerate Residential Solar Growth

Former cricket captain MS Dhoni has joined SolarSquare’s latest funding round as an investor, backing India’s fastest-growing rooftop solar startup through his family office Midas Deals.1 The investment underscores growing confidence in renewable energy among high-profile Indian entrepreneurs and signals accelerating venture interest in climate tech.

SolarSquare closed a Rs. 510 crore ($53 million) Series C round, with Dhoni participating alongside institutional investors B Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Lowercarbon Capital. The startup is now valued at $470 million, powering over 50,000 homes across India.2 This round more than doubled SolarSquare’s valuation from just 18 months ago, reflecting explosive growth in the sector.

SolarSquare Expands Rooftop Solar Amid India’s Renewable Energy Boom

“It’s about investing in India’s future,” Dhoni stated, reflecting the national shift toward clean energy. India has become the world’s third-largest solar producer, with cumulative installed capacity reaching 150 GW in 2026. Remarkably, this grew from just 3 GW in 2014. The government now targets 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, with solar expected to contribute over half.3

SolarSquare offers end-to-end residential solar solutions, handling consultation, design, installation, financing, and maintenance. The company operates at an annualized revenue run rate of Rs. 1,000 crore 4, addressing India’s highly fragmented rooftop solar market dominated by small local installers lacking scale.

The startup’s success reflects accelerating investor interest in climate tech and distributed energy. With government subsidies, falling solar module costs, and flexible financing options starting at Rs. 999 per month, residential adoption is surging across urban India.5 Dhoni’s investment validates SolarSquare’s vision of transforming India’s energy infrastructure from centralized coal-based grids to distributed home-based solar power generation.
