Cleantech Startup Expands Emission Control for DG Sets and Crematoriums Across India
Pune-based cleantech startup NovorbisItus secured ₹13.35 crore in seed funding led by Rainmatter, the investment arm of Zerodha, with participation from Rockstud Capital. The capital deploys toward scaling emission control and air purification systems for decentralised pollution sources, particularly diesel generator sets and crematoriums.1
Founded by Harsh Neekhra, Gagan Tripathi and Divyank Gupta, NovorbisItus began as a second-year college project in Indore driven by vision to fix air pollution at its source. The company’s primary product is an ARAI-certified, filter-less Retrofit Emission Control Device designed to reduce particulate matter and harmful emissions from DG sets2 without requiring full equipment replacement.
India operates over 20 lakh diesel generator sets, contributing significantly to particulate emissions in major cities including Delhi-NCR and Mumbai experiencing sustained poor air quality periods. The patented system combines electrostatic precipitation with automated cleaning mechanisms, delivering high efficiency and minimal maintenance requirements suitable for retrofit applications. The solution enables DG set operators across industrial and commercial environments to meet CPCB emission norms, including CPCB IV+ standards.3
NovorbisItus also developed Crematorium Air Purification System addressing another significant but underserved pollution source. Fresh capital will scale deployment of existing solutions, expand product portfolio to address boilers and large industrial facilities including steel plants, and enable industries to implement on-site carbon capture technologies.4
Rainmatter’s investment reflects conviction that DG set emissions and crematorium pollution represent urgent, undeniable and underserved problems. The company is building technology specifically suited for Indian conditions5 where global solutions have proven inadequate, backed by validated field deployments and strengthened compliance environments.
